Miyazaki EV Subsidies 2026: Prefecture Excludes EVs, National CEV Is Key

For fiscal year 2026 (Reiwa 8), Miyazaki Prefecture is among the least generous in Japan when it comes to EV subsidies for individuals. The prefecture's decarbonization subsidy (Hinata Zero Carbon) covers solar panels, water heaters, and the like, and explicitly excludes EVs and V2H. No subsidy from Miyazaki City could be confirmed either, and Kushima City's 200,000 yen program remains at FY2025 (Reiwa 7) information. For the vehicle itself, the national CEV subsidy (up to 1.3 million yen for EVs) is effectively all there is. Here is the practical picture.

Think of Miyazaki's EV Subsidies as a Two-Story Structure

1st floor: National

CEV subsidy (the main player)

A national subsidy available to both individuals and corporations. For FY2026 it offers up to 1.3 million yen for EVs, the largest amount by far.

2nd floor: Municipalities

Miyazaki City unconfirmed; check with Kushima City

No vehicle subsidy could be confirmed for Miyazaki City. Kushima City's 200,000 yen plus 100,000 yen for charging equipment is FY2025 (Reiwa 7) information; confirm for Reiwa 8.

What about the prefecture?

The prefectural decarbonization subsidy excludes EVs

The Hinata Zero Carbon Acceleration Program covers solar panels, storage batteries, water heaters, etc., and officially states that EVs and V2H are not eligible.

"Up to 1.3 million yen" is a cap. The actual subsidy is set per model based on evaluations such as the vehicle's environmental performance. Applications close once the budget runs out, and subsidized vehicles carry a mandatory holding period of, in principle, 4 years; selling within that period may require repayment. Check the published amount for your specific vehicle on the Next Generation Vehicle Promotion Center's list.

[Miyazaki Prefecture] The Prefectural Decarbonization Subsidy Explicitly Excludes EVs

Miyazaki Prefecture's decarbonization subsidy for Reiwa 8, the "Hinata Zero Carbon Acceleration Program Subsidy," covers solar panels, storage batteries, high-efficiency water heaters, insulation retrofits, and the like, and officially states that EVs and V2H are not eligible. The past EV subsidy for businesses also could not be confirmed as running in Reiwa 8.

[Municipalities] Miyazaki City Unconfirmed; Kushima City Is FY2025 (Reiwa 7) Information

CityStatus for FY2026
Miyazaki CityAn EV purchase subsidy for individuals could not be confirmed
Kushima CityThere is a program of up to 200,000 yen for EVs plus up to 100,000 yen for charging equipment, but the only official confirmation is FY2025 (Reiwa 7) information. Including requirements such as pre-application before ordering and at least 1 year of resident registration, check with the city for FY2026

The practical approach in Miyazaki is to reliably secure the national CEV subsidy plus the automobile tax reductions. The national subsidy ends once the budget runs out, so apply early once you decide to buy.

Also Check the EV "Taxes" (Automobile Tax Reductions)

Separately from subsidies, EVs are exempt from the automobile tax environmental performance levy (the FY2026 tax reform has also decided to abolish the levy itself), and the following year's automobile tax (type-based levy) is reduced by roughly 75% under the Green Taxation Special Measure. For details, see EV taxes and the 2026 automobile tax reform.

Are Subsidies Taxable?

EV subsidies received by individuals are treated as occasional income (ichiji shotoku). Because there is a special deduction of 500,000 yen per year, no tax arises if your total occasional income for the year, including other items, stays within 500,000 yen. Even combining national and municipal subsidies usually stays within this, but be careful about the total in a year when you receive multiple large subsidies. Business use is treated differently, so consult a tax accountant or similar professional.

What to Do Today

What to do today

  1. Check the national CEV subsidy amount for your candidate model on the Next Generation Vehicle Promotion Center's list (the amount for your specific car, not "up to 1.3 million yen")
  2. Search "EV subsidy" on your municipality's official website; since municipal information in Miyazaki is thin, check with your municipality of residence and confirm remaining budget and application status
  3. Build your application schedule backward from the delivery date (check three things: registration date, application deadline, and budget exhaustion)

FAQ

Q. I live in Miyazaki City. What can I use?

A. No vehicle subsidy from Miyazaki City could be confirmed, so your main options are the national CEV subsidy (up to 1.3 million yen for EVs) and the automobile tax reductions.

Q. Is Kushima City's 200,000 yen available this year too?

A. The only officially confirmed information is for FY2025 (Reiwa 7); FY2026 has not been confirmed. Since the program required pre-application before ordering, check with the city before purchasing.

Q. Are there plans to create a new prefectural subsidy?

A. As of August 2026, no information on a new purchase subsidy for individuals in Miyazaki Prefecture could be confirmed. Programs change by fiscal year, so we recommend checking the prefecture's and municipalities' official websites at the start of the fiscal year (April).

Q. Should I apply for the national CEV subsidy alone?

A. Yes. The main money is the national CEV subsidy (up to 1.3 million yen for EVs, 580,000 yen for kei EVs), and it can be used regardless of whether municipal subsidies exist. It ends once the budget runs out, so applying early is the safe move.
